Atlanter is the new project from Jens Carelius and Arild Hammerø. They play music inspired by desert rock, krautrock and old time delta blues. All that with from a rather more Norwegian approach, that can be best described as mountain blues. Alongside Carelius and Hammerø are Jonas Barsten Johnsen and Morten Kvam who complete the line-up for this mountain blues orchestra, Altanter. The band release their debut album March 15th.
Jens Carelius has created a rather fine reputation for himself with releases like “The First Songs” (2008), “The Beat Of The Travel” (2009) and “The Architect” (2011). He’s earned some pretty good press for his records, in particular the two most recent efforts, earning 5s and 6s across the board. Arild Hammerø released his debut album “Dagen Som Gryr” in 2008 which was followed by “Flåte med Hammer & Hersk” with Daniel Herskedal in 2012 to critical acclaim. They were previously part of Blues Run The Game alongside Siri Nilsen as well as Arild playing guitar with electronica duo Ost & Kjex, featuring on their recent album “Cajun Lunch”.
Jonas Barsten Johnsen is a young percussionist with a masters from Norges Musikkhøgskole. He’s played over a hundred shows in the last three years, including most of the major festivals in Norway. Morten Kvam plays standup and electric bass and has been active in both the Oslo and Bergen scenes as part of all sorts of set ups, playing jazz, rock, pop, improv and folk.
