Heartfelt is the solo project of the Oslo based composer, producer and musician Brede Rørstad. Whilst he was studying classical composition he began to experiment with electronic music on an 8-track, a drum machine and a synth. Inspired by Björk and Jaga Jazzist he began to mix electronic and classical and in time he shaped his distinctive aesthetic.
His distinctive sound is made up if pop, classical and electronica all in equal measure. In his intricate universe of sounds, drum machines, strings and horns are juxtaposed with strong melodies and striking lyrics. Heartfelt is a master of light and shade, balancing the playful and the serious, the intimate and the grandiose, the dancefloor and the coffee table, the simple and the complex.
Always experimenting with his own music Heartfelt’s sound is always taking on new forms. In one track he can perform with just a drummer, another on his own with a sampler, or play with a full band, wind quintet or even an orchestra. He has released two EPs, written chamber and orchestral music, for soloists as well as for film and theatre. “Watch Out Lover” is his debut LP.
