Speaker: Moderator: Eamonn Forde, Music Ally
Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung look like they’re poised to start a five-way corporation Battle Royale to dominate the global music landscape in 2013. Even streaming services like Spotify, WiMP and Deezer themselves have stated that the digital music market is all about scale and that only a few platforms will survive.
Margins in music services are slim: the main platforms rely on massive scale to compete. However, scale brings reach with it. In fact, have niche music artists, independent labels, or smaller companies who previously couldn’t compete on a global scale ever had it better?
And what does it mean for local and independent repertoire?
Panel:
Marni Wandner – Owner, Sneak Attack Media
Sam Valenti IV – Founder/CEO, Ghostly International and Drip FM
Tony Kiewel – VP artists and Marketing, Sub Pop
Inger Elise Mey – Director of Online Media & International Licensing, TONO ; Chairman, Norwegian Center for Technology in Music and the Arts (NOTAM)
Erik Brataas – Chief Executive Officer, Phonofile AS
