Speaker: Moderator: Rob Young
Following the global success of Scandinavian TV series like The Killing, Borgen and Wallander, writers such as Jo Nesbø and Stieg Larsson, and of course musicians from Bjørk to Jan Garbarek, the Nordic way of life, both its dark and light sides, is on display to the world as never before.
This panel will bring together experts in the fields of music, television, design and cultural history to discuss the pull of the North – are the myths true? Do the stereotypes hold? What is so attractive to the rest of the West about the Nordic lifestyle and the attitudes?
What can the Nordic region teach the rest of the world, and at the same time, what can it learn from it?
Panelists:
Robert Ferguson – Author of The Vikings: A History, biographer of Ibsen and Hamsun, currently writing Cultural History of Scandinavia
Peter Harness – Writer, BBC adaptation of Wallander
Andrew Mellor – Webmaster, Moose Report: Your Nordic Culture Briefing (moosereport.net)
Andres Lokko – Music/arts journalist/screenwriter, Svenska Dagbladet
