Speaker: Presentation by Chris Roach, Head of Business Development, AEG Digital Media
That a concert is best enjoyed live and in person goes without saying, but the march of technology has progressed so far that more and more people are choosing to enjoy a show from the comfort of their own sofa or an air conditioned cinema. With today’s sound-systems you can get that “live” feeling in your living room and be right up there almost on stage with the artist.
Cameras on cranes, or on high wires get hitherto unimaginable pictures that can really capture the moment in a way never conceivable previously. You can get the feeling of being there, without actually being there.
Is this science fiction? Or perhaps something that’s fast becoming a real proposition, a game changer for the live market.
Live Nation and Rolling Stone are already selling “Front Row Seats”, streaming a whole load of concerts. Coachella sent three parallel streams from last year’s fest and ACL in Austin streamed over 130 shows from the event this past year including a host of big names like Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys and Jack White. In the modern convenience driven world, the advance of technology would appear to have opened up a whole new market.
How will this affect the live market? Would you rather take in a show from your own sofa or perhaps a comfy cinema? What does this mean for the artist, economically and in terms of marketing?
