Speaker: Moderator: Karim Fanous, Music Ally
Major label restructuring has disrupted the traditional industry and independent artists and labels are increasingly looking to direct-to-fan platforms like Topspin and Bandcamp, funding platforms like PledgeMusic or Kickstarter, or even investment vehicles like the Icebreaker and Ingenious funds to support them, help them fund their products and scale their marketing and distribution reach.
At the same time The Wall Street Journal has pointed out that VC funding of consumer web and mobile companies was down by 42% in the first nine months of 2012 compared to 2011.
So, who is investing in what? What’s the outlook for the power of the crowd in early stage artist funding? How far will it take you as an artist? What are the opportunities for small companies in the music and music tech industries to get funded and what are the issues they face?
Panelists:
Benji Rogers – Founder and CEO, PledgeMusic
Cliff Fluet – Partner, Media and Entertainment, Leiws Silkins LLP
Harry Leckstein – Head of Music Business, Tech Music Business School
Ben Kirby – Managing director GooMusic, manager of The Subways, The Dancers and Young Aviators
