Speaker: Interviewer: Anne Hilde Neset
We are delighted to welcome the legendary Kim Gordon to by:Larm. She is a feminist icon and an inspirational figure and her long and varied career will make for a fascinating Q&A session, illustrated with music and visuals.
Even before she took the momentous step of co-founding Sonic Youth in 1981, Kim Gordon had been involved with avant garde rock scene in Harry Crews, as well as becoming a correspondent for Artforum magazine. In Sonic Youth she carved out a distinctive role as bassist, guitarist and vocalist, with one of the most distinctive and chilling voices in modern rock. She also pursued many projects in her own right: including her group Free Kitten and collaborations with everyone from Lydia Lunch and Courtney Love to Jim O’Rourke and Mike Watt. Beyond music, she has continued to make and curate art, and has exhibited installations at the influential Her Noise show in London and in collaboration with Jutta Koether, and created the multimedia performance piece “Perfect Partner” in 2005. She has made film appearances including Gus van Sant’s “Last Days”, has modelled for Calvin Klein, and also has her own clothing lines, X-Girl and Mirror/Dash.
Interviewer Anne Hilde Neset is Artistic Director of Ny Musikk, curator and founder of Her Noise, and former Deputy Editor of The Wire magazine.
The Q&A is followed by a DJ set by Carmen Villain.
