Speaker: tba
The BBC radio DJ and TV presenter, writer, journalist and critic talks through a life in modern broadcasting and alternative culture.
Stuart Maconie is one of the BBC’s national treasures. His regular, openminded shows on BBC 6Music, The Freak Zone and The Freakier Zone, are one of the last strongholds of rarely heard and uncompromising alternative sounds, making him the heir to John Peel’s legacy. The inventor of the word “Britpop”, he has written for Q, Word, Mojo, Elle, The Times, and The Guardian, and his books “Cider With Roadies”, “Pies And Prejudice” and “Adventures on the High Teas: In Search of Middle England” are entertaining investigations of the underbelly of English life. He is currently midway through the epic series “The People’s Songs, ‘the story of Modern Britain in 50 Records”.
