As the live music industry starts to plateau and growth slows with falling door take and stagnating prices, the industry will be forced to look for new ways to increase consumer engagement, and to squeeze money out of ticket sales. This inevitably means that digital + live will come through as an important trend in 2013.
Songkick has already led the way with Detour, helping bands to fund tours in towns where they might never have played. In addition live streaming from gigs, bundled ticket and music deals via direct-to-fan platforms, collaborative video platforms live vyclone conducting experiments in the live landscape, and innovation programmes like LiveNation Labs point the way while topline promotions and ticketing companies flex digital muscles and move to dominate the secondary ticketing market.
